Government Shuts Down AIT And Raypower Station Indefinitely!


The Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has suspended the licence of Daar Communications Plc, owners of African Independent Television (AIT) and Ray Power indefinitely.


Director - General of NBC, Modibbo Kawu, announced the shutdown on Thursday evening.
He said that the action was taken for failure of the TV and radio stations abide by the broadcasting code.

According to reports NBC has been monitoring the activities on AIT and Raypower Station, and indicates the use of comments which are not according to the broadcast code.

Some of these comments are "This country is gradually Islamising", "Nigeria is cursed", "We declare Independent State of Niger Delta", "Nigeria irritates me".

Founder of Daar Communication, Raymond Dokpesi had earlier accused the Presidency of intimidating his media group.

"This decision is based on the provisions of section 10 of the third schedule of the NBC act Cap N11 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2014 which states that where in opinion of the commission the station has been used in the manner detrimental to national interest.\

NBC stated "Where there is willful or repeated failure to operate substantially as set forth in the licence.

"Where there is willful or repeated violation or failure to observe to any provision of  this act or any rule or regulation or commission authorized by this act.

"Where there is observation or failure to observe any cease and desist order issued by the commission and where a provision of the Nigerian Broadcasting Code has been seriously breached. And the shut sown order is until further notice"
